Donegal star Mark McHugh has apologised after what he said was an “off the cuff” remark about the Antrim GAA team.
The Kilcar man had ben asked if he thought his father Martin, a columnist with the Irish Star newspaper, would now tip Donegal to win the All Ireland.
McHugh Snr has constantly tipped Donegal’s opposition in this year’s championship.
In response to the query McHugh Jnr said he did not think his dad would tip Donegal even if they were playing Antrim.
But now Mark McHugh said he is sorry and that emotions were high after the game against Cork in the semi-final.
“I talked it over with my father and he was not too happy about it. There was no offence intended to Antrim, who have quite a good record against Donegal.
I should not have said it and I hope I have not caused offence,” he said.
