A Letterkenny man has been told DNA can be taken from a tissue sample from a body he believes to be his late brother.
Jim McGlynn appeared at the Coroner’s Court in Letterkenny yesterday at the inquest to determine the identity of an unknown body.
The body was washed up in Dunfanaghy in 1983 and is buried in an unmarked grave at Holycross Graveyard.
Mr McGlynn believes the body is that of his brother Noel, 26, of Ballaghaderg who went missing just nine days before the unidentified body was washed up.
Solicitor for Mr McGlynn, Kieran Dillon told Coroner John Cannon that he was anxious to have the inquest heard.
He said his client always turned up in court and that there was a certain expectation when he did.
The inquest into the mystery body has been adjourned on a number of occasions.
Coroner Cannon told Mr Dillon that samples taken from the body had been sent to police in Wales for DNA profiling but this had now been sent to an independent company for analysis.
The coroner said he now understood that it was his understanding that DNA could be taken from the tissue block taken from the mystery body.
It is hoped this DNA testing will end the mystery as to who is buried in an unmarked grave in Dunfanaghy.
Coroner Cannon adjourned the inquest until September 28th next.
