A Donegal woman is hoping to row her way into the record books at the Paralympics after a remarkable battle with MS.
Ramelton woman Anne-Marie McDaid was perfectly healthy until 2006 and regularly enjoyed playing soccer running and doing Irish dancing.
However the 45 year old’s world was then turned upside down when she was diagnosed with the crippling disease of the nervous system.
Anne-Marie admits that all she did for the first three months of being diagnosed was to cry and feel sorry for herself.
And within three years of being diagnosed she was forced to use a walking stick to get around.
Amazingly she found rowing helped her condition and she hasn’t looked back.
She now trains twice a day, six days a week and puts her comeback down to intensive training.
Anne-Marie has now competed in many international events and finished in fifth place overall in the World Championships in November, 2010.
She competes with her crew at the Paralympic Games in London this week.
