THERE was a massive turn-out tonight for the 20th running of the Ballyare 10k.
More than 350 people took part in either the 10k race – or the 5k fun walk.
Run from Carr’s of the Diamond and taking in one of the toughest 10k routes in Co Donegal, hundreds of local people turned out to cheer on the runners and the walkers.
Local legend Patrick Hegarty, a multiple Irish champion, is race director these days (and of course still a runner.)
His astonishing record for the course at just over 30 minutes still stands after tonight’s event, which was won by Derry man Declan Reid who led from the front but couldn’t break Patrick’s record.
Congratulations to all those who took part and a special mention to Carr’s of the Diamond where once again tea, coffee, sandwiches and enough cakes and buns to feed an army were laid on for participant and spectator alike.
We will have a video of the walkers – and all the results a bit later on.
