Senior Men
Junior Championship Quarter Final 2nd Leg
Milford 1-14 Naomh Padraig Muff 1-6
A great performance from the senior men Last Saturday evening as they blew Muff away in a fantastic second half performance. Milford were in control for pretty much the whole game, yet they only went in at half time one point up. Milford failed to turn dominance in scores and it took a goal for Muff with 5 minutes remaining in the first half to shake Milford into life. That goal put Muff two points clear but the boys rallied well and ended up going in at the break 7 to 1-3 up. In the second half it was one way traffic. There were always options and constant runners available for the man in possession which was great to see. Resolute defending stifled Muff to only getting three scores in the second half, mostly from frees. A goal from Cathal Mc Gettigan with ten minutes left killed the game off as a contest and Milford ran out easy winners, and really should have won by more after some wasteful wides in the last few minutes. A magnificent team performance was supplemented by superb performances by Pauric Curley, Chippie Barrett and Cathal McGettigan.
The senior reserves also played championship last weekend and were held to a draw at home to Glenfin on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-7.
Ladies
Junior Championship Quarter Final
Milford 6-13 Buncrana 0-1
An outstanding performance from the girls last Sunday morning ensured that they booked their place in this years semi-final. Right from the very start Milford dominated possession with the forwards well on top and finding scores with almost every attack. Indeed if it wasn’t for three brilliant saves from the Buncrana keeper the game would have been effectively over at half time. As it was Milford went in at half time with the scoreboard reading 3-7 to 0-0. The second half pretty much followed the trend of the first with Milford again well on top. Amber Barrett was back to form again after her injury lay off and she was more than ably assited up front by the rest of the forward unit. Some of the movement and scores wouldn’t look out of place in Croke park and this was underpinned by a superb defensive display. The girls will put that performance behind them now and they know that they face a much sterner test against Dungloe on the 2nd September.
Minors
Milford 1-6 Fanad Gaels 2-14
The minors crashed out of the championship last Wednesday night after a very disappointing second half. Milford got off to a great start with Cathal Mc Gettigan scoring a goal after his penalty rebounded off the crossbar straight back into his arms. It got even better for Milford when Fanad were reduced to 14 men after ten minutes when a Fanad defender struck Darragh Black. The sides went in at half time 1-4 to 7 but a disastrous second half saw the team collapse and limp out of the competition. The boys are disappointed but this is a good young team that will not be losing too many players and the experience of this year will hold them in good stead next year.
Under 14’s
Hard luck to the under 14’s who were beaten in the county final last Friday night by Moville. To get to a county final is a great achievement and the whole team and management can be very proud.
