A new short film, produced in Donegal, is to be shown on the big screen at Century Cinemas in Letterkenny.

Frontiersmen, directed by Derek O’Connor, will play before screenings of My Brothers, which opens at Donegal’s biggest cinema on Friday, August 17th.

Frontiersmen is a short documentary featuring stories of rugged individualists, sole traders, and entrepreneurs across the North- West.

Filmed in Ramelton, Milford, Letterkenny and Strabane, the film features local heroes Liam Grier, Paddy Toye, Pat Gillespie, Alfie McCollum, Arsene, Eamon Friel and James McDaid.

The film is the brainchild of Ramelton-based writer and director Derek O’Connor, and produced by O’Connor’s own company Doris/Magee.

It was commissioned by Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny and Nerve Centre, Derry, as part of the Sharing Stories project, and enjoyed a sold-out screening at the Dublin Film Festival in February.

“I’m absolutely delighted and truly honoured that Frontiersmen is going to be seen on the big screen in Donegal,” says filmmaker Derek O’Connor.

“Century Cinemas is the finest movie house in the North-West, and a great champion of local film. To have our film play with a truly excellent new Irish feature like My Brothers is the icing on the cake. Frontiersmen celebrates everything that is truly unique about Donegal, and I hope local audiences enjoy it.”

Doris/Magee are also responsible for another recent Donegal-lensed short film, Surprise Ending, filmed in Letterkenny with renowned actor Gerard McSorley (Omagh, War Horse) and created for the 15 Second Film Festival – the film is now available for on-line viewing via Doris/ Magee’s You/Tube channel – www.youtube.com/user/dorismagee

For times and advance booking for screenings of MY BROTHERS and FRONTIERSMEN, phone the Century Cinemas box-office at 074 9121976 or go to www.centurycinemas.ie.
