Minors
Fanad Gaels 2-10 Milford 2-8
A disappointingly poor first half performance by the boys left them with too much to do in an all round poor performance. Despite starting brightly and leading four points to two after ten minutes that was as good as it got in the first half as they then went in five points down at the break. At the start of the secind half, a mix up in the full back line let Fanad in for their first goal to stretch their lead before Milford knocked over a few points. Kyle Black was then taken down in the box but unfortunately missed the resultant spot kick, however he redeemed himself moments later by hitting the back of the net from a tight angle. This rejuvenated Milford and they started to come back well but another goal for Fanad late in the half made it look like game over. A 45 for Cathal McGettigan, and another free from Kane Barrett before a Fanad own goal with 3 minutes of injury time left gave Milford renewed hope and closed the gap to 3 points. Cathal Mc Gettigan knocked over the last point of the game to leave Milford needing to have a much much improved performance in the return leg. The boys can take heart that they limited Fanad to only three scores in the second half, but looked like they lacked sharpness and training and looked rusty after the long lay off since the leaving cert began. Training for all minors continues every Tuesday and Thursday nights at the pitch at 7.30pm. Team: Sean Gallagher, Hugh Mc Menamin, Sean Black, Darragh McGettigan, Gavin Grier, Jamie Heena, Brandon Toye, Cathal McGettigan (0-6), Myles Trearty, Glen Mc Elhinney, Kyle Black (1-0), Aidan Hannigan, Kieran Sheridan, Kane Barrett (0-2), Odhran Coll. SUB: Ryan McDaid for Odhran Coll
Ladies
The under 16 girls got their league campaign underway last Monday night with a brilliant victory away to Termon. Shauna McBride was the player of the match with her tally of five goals and she was ably assisted by the Nyham twins, Leah Duggan and Lianne Boyce. This was a great performance from the whole team and they can look forward now to their next match against neighbours Fanad.
