Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 12th August
Congratulations: Many Buncrana Gaels made the journey south to the capital at the weekend to witness an historic victory for Donegal over Kerry. Ryan Bradley again deserves great credit for his hardworking performance in the middle of the field and will be delighted to have another All-Ireland Semi-Final to prepare for. Congratulations to Ryan and the entire squad.
Senior Ladies Football: Our senior ladies football team had to travel to Termon on Sunday last for their second leg first round championship match. After suffering a very close defeat at the hands of Termon in the first leg of this fixture just a few weeks ago, the girls were determined that this was not going to the their last championship match of the season, and boy did they do it in style. After getting off to a bit of a shaky start and putting their first few scoring chances wide, the girls soon settled into the game and once Doreen McGee put the first point over, the entire game went Buncrana’s way. Termon did rally forward as much as they could but could never find away through to put anything on the scoreboard, with Claire Doherty pulling off some great saves in the Buncrana goal and the defense withstanding any attack. The Buncrana ladies came in at half time well in control of the game winning 2-3 to Termon’s 0-0. The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Buncrana controlling all the play everywhere on the pitch. The girls’ confidence has come some way from their first ever match for the club, with them being able to quickly move the ball from player to player all the way up the field from full back line to midfield to full forward line. Termon put in a good effort, making some changes to the team with substitutions and a bit of shuffling the pack,
but the Buncrana girls where ready for everything that was asked of them. Every girl there in a Buncrana jersey played their part in this wonderful win, right from the goalkeeper and onto the subs bench, as all the girls got a run out in this game. The double substitution of Ciara Barber and Danielle Kelly made their own mark on the game. with Danielle receiving the ball and laying it of quickly and accurately to Ciara who split the posts with her score. The Buncrana ladies came home victorious with a 5-9 to 0-2 win.
