RESIDENTS OF a Co Donegal town say boy racers are making the summer for residents and tourists “hell.”
People living in Ramelton say a number of young men are turning the town into a racing circuit at night.
Yesterday tyre tracks near the town hall was the evidence of boy racers in the area.
“It has become completely unbearable,” said one local mum, “it’s the sheer brazen madness of it all.
“It’s as if they know they’re going to get away with it and they speed through the streets and cause havoc with all the noise.
“I mean, just look at the tyre marks they’ve left the past few days.
“And no-one seems to do anything about it.”
She claimed elderly neighbours were particularly upset by the noise caused by thug drivers at night.
“They feel trapped,” said the resident, “they daren’t look out to see what’s going on for fear of being attacked.
“It is just ridiculous in this day and age – it’s 2012 for God sake – that young boys should be allowed to terrorise an entire community, to terrorise an entire town, for that is what they are doing to people; they’re terrorising us.”
Gardai have scored some successes recently in tackling car crime in the Letterkenny and Ramelton areas.
But the resident says she doesn’t blame Gardai.
HOT AIR
“It’s all the hot air from politicians,” she said, “they go on and on and yet the guards don’t have the resources.
“That’s what’s left here in Ireland now. A broke country with a society that is breaking down. I would appeal to the parents of these boys ‘Don’t you have any decency left in you?’
“Because if you did you’d know what your sons are doing.”
