Sean Mc Gettigan Club Classic.
It was billed as one of the biggest golfing classics in the North West and it certainly lived up to its billing as there was a record entry for the Sean Mc Gettigan golf classic at Portsalon Golf Club on Saturday last. Despite the changing weather conditions the team turned out in great numbers. The overall winners of the Sean mc Gettigan classic was the classic kings Sara, Noel, Stuart Nicholl and Davy Mc Laughlin to win on the break of tie with a magnificent 93 point, runners up Eamon Mc Conigley, Mark Duffy, Pat Bonner, S Doherty 93 points. Third Paddy Mc Groarty, Dana Clinton, Betty Boal, Maureen Shannaghan 87 points, fourth John Shields, Enda Mc Elhinney, Patrick Crerand, Donal Callaghan Jnr 87 points, fifth Eoin O’Neill, Kieran O’Neill Aedeen Conway Denver Kirk 86 points. The gents longest drive went to Rory Kenny and the ladies was Phil Brown. Neaest the pin was Sydney Anderson. In addition to playing on the golden ‘’Banks’’ of Ballymastocker Bay the golfers were treated to an excellent meal
Barton Cup
One of the oldest golfing events in the history of Portsalon Golf Club will be held on Monday 6th August. The event is the Barton Cup which was first staged in 1899. This is an open match play event played over nine holes with the semi finals and final played over 18 holes. All who are going to participate must have their names entered by Saturday 4 th August and the draw will take place at 6 p. m.. The first tee is reserved for this prestigious event and the competition gets underway at 7.30 a.m. In order to have the matches played all players are asked to be on time. For those defeated in first round of the Barton Cup they will be entered into the Mc Menamin Plate.
Captains Day
Preparations are well underway at Portsalon Golf Club for D P Logue’s Captains Day which will be played on Saturday 18th August . A time sheet is in operation for this major golfing event. Contact 0749159459 or go online to portsalongolfclub.com for your tee time.
Team News
The Portsalon Junior League team travelled to Dungannon on Sunday for the quarter final match in this season competition. Playing a very experience Donaghadee team. Having wining the first two matches the Portsalon team were narrowly beaten by three matches to two. The Captain D P Logue would like to thank all the players who represented Portsalon and achieved the remarkable achievement of reaching the Ulster quarter final.
Events
On Saturday 4th August there is a ladies and gents open stableford competition. On Sunday 5th a ladies and gents open competition, On Wednesday there is an open competition.

The winner of the Sunday competition was Fergus Callaghan (16) 69 nett, runner up Martin Sutherland (4) 69 nett gross Eamon Mc Dermott (3) 75 Nnett. The CSS was 73
