Rising Finn Harps starlet Cathal McDaid has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The talented winger who scored on his representative debut for the Ireland home based side versus Wales, was a member of the victorious Harps team that won the inaugural U19 northern division earlier this year.
McDaid has penned a deal that will commit his services to the Finn Park club until the end of 2014 season.
Harps Manager Peter Hutton believes McDaid has a future in senior football.
“Cathal has huge potential, a good attitude and a real willingness to learn. These are the attributes that are needed to make a successful career in senior football,” he said.
Cathal said he is looking forward to the challenge with the Ballybofey club.
“I was absolutely delighted when the manager offered me the contract because I am really enjoying my time at Finn Harps. I am ambitious and want to break into the first team squad but I know its not going to be easy. I know the club has big plans for the future so I am going to keep my head down, work hard and hopefully be a part of it,” he said.
Hutton says he will be talking to the clubs other young players about their future in the coming weeks and months.
“I believe Cathal’s the first with more to follow. Everyone at the club is working very hard behind the scenes and the recent announcement of our scholarship programme with LYIT shows Finn Harps is committed to recruiting and developing young players.” he added.
