The Daniel O’Donnell Visitors Centre has been declared a huge success after more than 5,000 people paid to see the star’s memorabilia just a few weeks after it first opened.
The centre, which is the brainchild of local businessman Pat Nora Gallagher, opened at the beginning of May in Dungloe.
The star has revealed he had no idea how popular his old memorabilia would be.
“The centre is doing really well! It has surpassed all of our expectations with over 5,000 visitors through the centre already.
“I never expected that people would be that interested in seeing all my memorabilia! Thank you to everyone who has made the effort to come along. It really has benefited the community to no end,” he said.
The centre features a catalogue of the singer’s private memorabilia including his wedding suit, his old schoolbag and dozens of his gold disks.
The star, who has taken a break long tours, often pops into the centre to the delight of fans.
The centre’s visitors book reveals the name of fans who have travelled form as far as America and Australia to see Daniel’s private collection.
Despite the miserable summer weather the Donegal star revealed he has been busy learning Irish and improving his golf game.
“Apart from the weather, I have been enjoying my time off. I went to Irish college to brush up on my Irish language skills. It was really interesting but very difficult. I was amazed at the number of foreigners that were able to speak Irish fluently! I will definitely go again next year.
“I also took some golf lessons which I found really helpful at the time. Unfortunately, since then, I can’t seem to play the new way or the old way,” admitted Daniel.
