By all accounts – including those about the ones that got away – retired fishing tackle dealer Joe Nash has something of a reputation for landing big fish.
So it was no surprise to his friends when the Kilmacrennan man added to his long tally of saltwater fish records again last week when he landed a cracking 14 lbs Spurdog.
He was on board the “Bonito” skippered by Trevor Ryder from Downings.
The fish is a dogfish shark – the biggest ever caught in Ireland was off Kenmare in 1998, weighing in at 21lbs.
Apparently they’re a favourite dish for the Spanish and French, who fry them in garlic butter!
