THE skies above Donegal this evening were lit up by a dazzling display from the sunset.
But will it herald some longed-for sunshine?
It depends on which forecaster you want to believe.
RTE and the BBC differ over what the next few days will hold, but they agree it won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine – and the miserable non-stop rain is over, for a while at least.
However Co Donegal can expect dry weather for most of the rest of this week as the current wet weather moves further south.
Warm winds will also disappear by mid-week as cooler but lighter winds come from the north.
“The weather will be mostly settled for the rest of the week with good dry intervals and some sunshine, and just a few outbreaks of rain,” said a Met spokeswoman.
“The south of the country will be warm, while the north will be cooler. From next weekend it will turn cooler everywhere as winds turn northerly.”
She added: “The further outlook for next weekend suggests that it will turn cool everywhere, with temperatures below normal for July, but still a lot of dry and bright weather in store as well as some showers.”
