IT CARRIES out the work of a regional hospital but doesn’t get the money to match.
However despite this Letterkenny General Hospital is amongst the best performing in the county when it comes to dealing with admissions, a HSE report says.
The Government has set a target where patients should be admitted or discharged within nine hours of arriving at a hospital.
The HSE says Letterkenny staff were able to deal with more than 90 per cent of patients in this way.
That was among the best in the country.
The worst performances were in the capital – with the Beaumont saw just 14 per cent of patients in that time; and the Mater which was at 16 per cent.
However it wasn’t all good news.
Absenteeism among staff is still well above both the private sector and the target of 3.5%.
And Letterkenny has overspent on its budget for the year; though again not as bad as other hospitals.
