Letterkenny Ladies had their first taste of the Maire O’Donnell competition against Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club on Sunday 15th July, taking one and a half matches. Looking forward to the home leg, Team Captain Celine Bradley, declared she was very satisfied with the result against a formidable opposition.
On Friday 13th July the Mixed Open Foursomes produced a marriage made in heaven with the Spences, Tracy and Keith returning 65.6 to win. The pairing of Sandra McMonagle and Paul Bryan came runners up with 66.2 and in third were Celine Bradley and Gerard Duffy with 66.6. Mr Captain, Niall O’Donnell was very pleased with the huge entry, proclaiming particular delight at the post golf atmosphere in the club house. As a result, it is intended to have another Mixed Foursomes on Fri 24th August.

Always a great supporter of the club, the prizes were warmly received by the winner, Cynthia Fuery 37points, Runner Up Mary Murray 36 points, Gross Marian O’Sullivan 21 gross points, 3rd Celine Bradley 36 points B.O.T. Front 9 Jackie Ireland 20 points. Back 9 Peggy Forde 19 points. Visitor Mairead Harkin 29 points, Gweedore Golf Club.
It was nice to see Mary Ellen McNulty take her first tentative steps on to the winners podium, with her win in the 9 hole competition on the 12th July with 16 points B.O.T.. May it be the first of many this year. Runner up Mary Murray 16 points.
The 18 hole qualifier for the ladies club, Club Classic Team to be played on the 28th July was won by Marian O’Sullivan 36 points, Bridget McClafferty 34 points, Pauline Curley 30 points, Karen McGlinchey 30 points.
Many thanks to the AIB who sponsor the Open on Tuesday 24th July, leading to a busy week of golf. A club 18 hole competition, in aid of breast cancer, is on Thursday 26th July. There is also another breast cancer fundraiser with the very popular NW Breast Care Unit Classic, sponsored by the Silver Tassie Hotel and Spa on Fri 27th July. Saturday 28th July is the Sigma Wireless Club Classic. Teams of four, any combination, are €100 and timesheets are in operation for all competitions. On Monday 6th August there will be a ‘Save St. Lukes’ Ladies and Gents Singles Stableford Open with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and visitors in both ladies and gents sections. €10 members and €20 visitors. Timesheet in operation.
