Donegal Pet Rescue told donegaldaily.com that the kitten’s rear legs were broken in the incident at the weekend.
“The Crolly kitten is now with the Animal Health Centre in Ramelton,” said DPR in a statement.
“The kitten has two broken legs and the injuries are consistent with being thrown from a moving vehicle. Heidi the vet there has confirmed this.
“She has offered to operate on the poor kitten for 100 euro (normally costs around 300 euro) which is very kind of her. If anyone would like to donate towards the cost, they can do by donating online or directly to the vets.”
The spokesman went on: “Helen on the Helpline received a distressing call from a farmer near Crolly, who was out feeding his herd of cattle, when he heard a screech of brakes.
“He rushed over and saw a kitten screaming in agony. One of our volunteers rushed out and thought the poor kitten had at least two broken legs and must have been thrown from the car like a piece of rubbish. Helen could hear the kitten screaming when she was on the phone with the farmer! No words can express this despicable act.”
