Senior Men
The senior men were beaten in the Junior Championship, preliminary round, first leg by Lifford on Sunday on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-8. Lifford started the game quicker and after twenty minutes were 6 points up. Dean Burgess scored a great goal to cut the deficit to three points but another Lifford point followed which gave them a four point lead going in at half time. Milford got a great start to the second half with a lovely point from Cathal McGettigan but received a hammer blow two minutes later when Lifford were awarded a highly dubious penalty which was converted to leave six points between the sides again. Milford didn’t give up hope and points from Cathal McGettigan, Cormac Friel, Luke Barrett and James Gallagher meant that there was just a goal in it with a couple of minutes to go. Unfortunately Milford were unable to create a goal chance and Lifford kicked the last score of the game to give them a four point victory. Milford scorers on the day were Cormac Friel (0-1), Pauric Curley(0-1), Dean Burgess(1-0), Christopher Barrett(0-1), Luke Barrett (0-2), Cathal McGettigan (0-2) and James Gallagher (0-1).
Ladies Teams
The senior ladies championship game was called off due to Naomh Mhuire pulling out of the competition which means that they are now through to the quarter final which is due to be played sometime in August.
Congratulations to Danielle Friel and Andy Horsman who celebrated their wedding last Friday and we wish them every happinness for the future.
The under 14 girls were beaten by one point last week in the semi-final against Ardara. Played in atrocious weather conditions the girls led for most of the game but unfortunatley a couple of goals for Ardara near the end proved costly. The girls have had a great year and can be proud of all their efforts.
The under 12’s held a very succesful blitz last Saturday morning when they hosted Termon, Fanad and Glenswilly. The format consisted of nine a side and seven a side games and the girls won the five games they played. With the talent that was on display it’s looking very bright for future ladies teams in the club.
Best of luck to Orla Harrisson who is part of the Donegal Ladies Senior Team that will contest the Ulster Final against Monaghan on Sunday.
Congratulations to Shannon McGroddy, Amber Barrett and Orla McAteer who were all members of the county under 16 team who secured their place in this years Ulster Final with a four point win over Tyrone last Saturday. Well done to Shannon who was awarded player of the match. Between Senior, Minor, under 16 and under 14 this means that there will have been seven Milford Players involved in Ulster Finals this year which is a great achievement for the club.
CulCamps
Over 60 boys and girls took part in last week’s Cul Camp held by the club and a very enjoyable week was had by all. Thanks to all those who helped organise the week. Pictures of the week can now be viewed on the club’s website.
