Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 15th July
Senior Ladies Gaelic Football: It was another historic day for Buncrana GAA at Scarvey on Sunday, as the Senior Ladies Football team took to the field for the clubs first ever outing in the Junior County Championship. The ladies were faced with the very experienced Termon side but both teams started well, however it was Termon who put the first score on the board. This was quickly answered with a Buncrana charge up the field which resulted in a goal for the home side. The rest of the first half then followed this pattern, with each score quickly answered with a score from the opposing team. At half-time Termon held the lead but only by a margin of two points. A close scoreline, which lead to a very tough and close fought battle in the second half. Buncrana started the stronger in the second-half, briefly taking the lead and putting pressure on the seasoned Termon squad. But the veteran senior level midfielders for Termon then showed their practical side and began holding the ball up well and releasing the ball quickly into their forward line. The full-time score was Buncrana 4-6 to Termon 4-9, with just the three points in it due to the great determination shown by all girls from 1 to 15, including the substitutes used. Of note was the accuracy shown from Naimh Connolly up front, the partnership in the middle of the field from Doreen McGee and Natasha Craig and the ever ready defensive capabilities of Michelle Brown and Catherine McLaughlin. Best of luck to the girls in the second leg, which is sure to be an exciting encounter.

Senior Football: It was a dissappointing weekend for our Senior footballers who made the long trip to Glen Colmcille on Saturday evening. Despite a spirited fightback in the second half from Buncrana, the home side were victorious by 3 points. In truth Buncrana gave themselves a mountain to climb in the second half, following a lacklustre first half performance. Final score: Glen Colmcille 1-12 Buncrana 1-9. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30pm.
