The secretary of Finn Harps has warned the club could face a hefty fine after sexist comments were made to match referee Rhona Daly.
Ms Daly was the first female referee to officiate at a game at Finn Park during the club’s 3-2 victory over Mervue Utd at Ballybofey last night.
However club secretary John Campbell said the behaviour of a small few in making sexist remarks could cost the club dearly.
He fumed “ There were some great and witty banter there tonight about a woman changing her mind and it being pointless arguing with a woman etc etc.
“It was great stuff good fun but a few people a very few people were nasty and very sexist in their comments.
“These people must realise that this is not tolerated and if reported by the Referee or any of the official and the referees inspector it can and would cost harps hundreds of euro s at a minimum in fines.
“So keep up the banter but a bit of common sense from the few unless they are prepared to pat the fine themselves,”he said.
Mr Campbell added that he was more than happy with the performance of Ms Daly.
“She had a decent game missed one or two things but let the match flow.”
