There has been ANOTHER major burglary in the Newtowncunningham area.
The local county council compound was broken into overnight and equipment was taken.
It is believed doors were smashed and an undisclosed materials taken by a gang.
A full inventory is now being taken by council staff to see what the thieves stole.
It comes as Gardai reject claims that there is not enough Garda patrols in the area.
Supt Vincent O’Brien said yesterday that he was satisfied with the rostering systems along the border areas.
However local Fianna Fail county councillor Paul Canning described the situation as “ridiculous.”
“People in the area are simply not happy with the Garda cover and that’s a fact. That’s what I’m hearing on the ground.
“Donegal is an island on its own and it is not adequately covered by Gardai. The many recent incidents in this area have shown that.
“We need an increase in manpower not a review of the situation. We need Gardai on the ground to tackle this increase in vandalism and robberies,” he said.
