Bundoran Town Councillor Diarmaid Doherty has joined Sinn Fein.
Speaking today in a meeting with senior Sinn Féin Public figures, Cllr Doherty said he was delighted to formally announce that he has joined the party.
“Throughout my time in public office, I have worked closely alongside Michael McMahon and Sean McCarthy on innumerable campaigns and local issues on behalf of our community and I have for a long time believed Sinn Féin to be my natural political home.
“Sinn Féin has been at the forefront of the campaign to defend our communities against the ravages of this government’s austerity measures, and I feel that our Party’s policies are resonating with ordinary people, not just locally but across Ireland,” he said.
He added that Sinn Féin has consistently presented alternative political solutions to the difficulties faced by the people believes many others will follow his lead take the decision to join its ranks in the future.
“I would like to thank the representatives here today for the warm welcome and I look forward to working with them and the wider Sinn Féin membership as I continue to represent the people of Bundoran to the very best of my ability,” he said.
Deputy Pearse Doherty said he was delighted to welcome Diarmaid Doherty into the Sinn Féin Party.
“Having known Diarmaid for a number of years now, both in his capacity as a local business man, and in his role as one of Bundoran’s outstanding public representatives, I firmly believe that his addition to both the Sinn Féin team on Bundoran Town Council and the wider Sinn Féin organisation is an incredibly positive move for the Party.
“Diarmaid has toiled alongside our representatives on many campaigns and I look forward to this continued and strengthened relationship developing further into the future as all of us on the Sinn Féin team continue to address the issues concerning the people of Bundoran and South Donegal,” he said
