The Old Courthouse Visitor Centre in Lifford opened to the public in 1994 and has seen many changes since then.
The Centre now offers a “Live Tour” of the cells where you will experience prison life firsthand when you are arrested and fingerprinted by the vicious prison guard and disciplined by the no nonsense school teacher.
You will mingle with residents from the past including James Napper Tandy, Mary Kelly and Poor Aul Michael McFadden.
On your release from prison you can visit the Courthouse Bistro set in the historic courtroom. The centre also has two function rooms which are available for private parties or meetings.
The restaurant opens at 9.30am Monday to Friday serving breakfast until 11.30am with homemade scones a speciality. Lunch is served from 12 – 2pm with a wide selection of starters, light snacks, wraps, paninis, baguettes, and main courses. Daily specials include Soup & Sandwich for €5.50 and Main Courses at €8.15.
Visitors in the last week included Milford & District over 65’s group, St Cairealls Primary School from Castlederg, Scoil Iosagain from Buncrana and Scoil Cholmcille from Greencastle.
