Met Eireann has issued a warning for heavy rain and showers for the county today and this evening with a risk of flooding.
AA Ireland and Gardai are once again warning motorists to slow down to cope with the conditions.
“There’ll be further outbreaks of heavy rain or heavy showers through Thursday night,” said a Met Eireann spokesman.
“There’s a risk of local flooding with further large accumulations in places. At the same time winds will become fresh and gusty from a westerly direction and temperatures will fall to 9 or 10 degrees.
“Friday will be another wet and windy day with fresh and gusty westerly winds and heavy showers or longer spells of rain. Showers will be heaviest and most prolonged over northern areas where they will merge to give accumulations of over 20 mm in places.
“Temperatures during Friday will be between 12 and 16 degrees, warmest further south. Overnight temperatures will be between 9 and 11 degrees.
“The rain or showers will linger across northern areas in to Saturday but it’ll be brighter further south with just scattered showers. As the day goes on that drier brighter weather in southern areas will push northwards as the rain finally clears away to the northeast late on Saturday.
“Saturday night will become mostly dry and then it will be a dry day in most places on Sunday with just scattered showers.
“Current indications suggest a drier, brighter day on Monday with sunny spells and temperatures reaching 20 degrees or higher inland. Tuesday will see a few showers but it is looking a little more settled with a milder start to the week.”
