Trevor was the owner of the pet German Shepherd dog Rex which was stabbed and slashed to death in a shed at the family home in St Johnston at the weekend.
Crouched down where Rex was found, the splattering of blood from the sickening attack can still be seen on the wall beside Trevor.
The Donegal man is still too distraught to speak about it. He is too heartbroken, already grieving over the death of his mum Sheila from cancer six weeks ago.
But he wanted to show donegaldaily readers where the attack happened – and what was left behind.
Rewards of up to €1,000 have been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for breaking into the shed in the early hours of Saturday where they repeatedly stabbed the two-year-old dog.
“We are still trying to come to terms with the loss of our mother and now this happens,” said Trevor’s sister Kathy.
“Why would anybody want to do this to a poor animal. We just can’t figure it out.
“He was a lovely big dog. My daughter Yasmin is only two but she loved playing with Rex and he was always gentle with her.
Mrs Peoples is pictured, left.
The incident has caused shock and outrage beyond Co Donegal.
Neighbours had heard the yelp of a dog but thought it was the cries of a puppy, not realising that Rex was being stabbed to death.
