The following rules have been agreed by CONGU from January 2012. ANY notable score achieved in a ‘NON-QUALIFYING, Competition must be returned to your Home Club for immediate consideration by the Handicap Committee.
This is all scores which equal or better the Standard Scratch Score of the course. Such competitions would include Re-Entry competitions, Society Golf, etc. It is the player’s responsibility to return such scores and they should be recorded in the Blue Book in the ladies locker room as soon as the competition ends. If relevant, you may also need to contact the Handicap Secretary ( e.g. if playing in another competition in a very short space of time )
The Handicap Committee will consider and make a decision re any immediate adjustment. Further details of the rules applying to the above can be seen on www.ilgu.ie
Ladies who have not yet registered online, should try and contact a committee member who will register them if they do not have access to a computer.
Sometimes, in our rush to the first tee, we forget to acknowledge the countless hours of work that goes on behind the scenes by many members who volunteer their valuable time. The work at the first tee is such an example.
What brought this to my mind today, was the sight of our Junior Convenor, Catherine Cooke-Harkin, soaked to the skin bringing her junior charges around the course, running two separate competitions for the boys, a 9 hole and an 18 hole, concurrently.
There it does not end, as she is also involved with Junior Golf Ireland bringing lots of new girls to the club to learn and enjoy the sport of golf. On the 9th, the 16th and the 23rd July volunteers are asked to give 1 hour maximum of your time between 5-6pm working with raw beginners, junior girls. It is not necessary to have undertaken the Child Awareness Course to help out here.
The Lady Beginners course for €30 for 3 group lessons with our PRO Seamus Clinton continues and we are hungry for your old clubs you no longer want or need. Please leave them in the locker room, it is much appreciated.
12th June McGees Butchers 18 hole competition Veronica McAteer won with 37points. Runner-Up Tracy Spence 37 points B.O.T. and 3rd Mary Murray 36 points. Many thanks to McGees Butchers for their generous sponsorship. 14th June: 13 Hole was won by Joan Murphy 30 points, Runner Up: Trish McLaughlin 28 points, 3rd Rena O’Herlihy 26 points. The weekend re-entry 13 hole was won by Marian O’Sullivan 28 points and runner up was Tracy Spence 23 points. Good luck to Team Captain, Mary Ellen McNulty and the Miele team who play Dunfanaghy on Sunday at 2pm home and away. In preparation to get our club looking its best for inspection for the Top 100 Clubs, any assistance you can give with flowers or baskets or indeed weeding would be greatly appreciated.
Get well wishes are sent to any of our ladies who are currently fighting illness. In particular, to Noreen, from Browns on the Green we wish a speedy recovery.
