Ireland won! While fans in Poland are a little disappointed, the Ireland family back home were well pleased when Jackie Ireland took the honours winning the June medal with 67 nett. Lady Vice Captain Sandra McMonagle, with her ‘new’ second hand driver that sends the ball a hundred miles, was runner up 67 nett B.O.T. Marian Keating, who has been back on form recently appearing in many photo shoots, came 3rd with 68 nett.
Over 150 players took part in the Hugh McFadden Memorial 18 hole competition in very fine weather, a testament to the high esteem in which he was held. Many thanks to Vera and the McFadden family for the beautiful prizes presented in honour of Hugh. James remarked that Hugh did not like rain nor stroke, neither of which we got, so he would have been extremely happy among us in the clubhouse afterwards. They say life begins at forty and it seems a favourite number these days for Monica McDonagh who scored 40 points to win the first Hugh McFadden prize for the ladies. 2nd Tracy Spence 36 points, Gross Marian Keating 24 gross points, 3rd Eileen Keating 34 points. The longest drive was won by Angela Bradley and nearest the pin was 16th hole specialist, Anne Cannon.
Open week is upon us and Con Boyce from the Golf Shop has kindly sponsored the 19th June for the ladies and once again Paul Sweeney Financial Services has generously sponsored the 21st June for the ladies. We are all looking forward to a great week of golf. Some major improvements have been carried out on the course, which is in terrific condition. LAdy Captain Angela wishes everyone a very enjoyable Open Week.
There will be a very special deal of the day in the PRO shop on each of the ladies days going to, first come first served. Browns on the Green will be open for pre and post golf homemade scones and tea as usual and of course will have a special on offer also. The superb food being served along with the melt in your mouth homemade tarts, all helps to ease the pain of some wayward golf – so I‘m told!
Commiserations to the Mixed Foursomes team who narrowly missed qualifying in Rosapenna.
