A teenager who jumped down a 40ft ravine and pulled two trapped motorists from a car in a river is to be honoured.
Inishowen man Jason McClay, 18, jumped into action after a car left a road and crashed into the Crana River outside Buncrana last week.
Jason was at the home of his girlfriend Danielle O’Donnell (both pictured here) when he heard the commotion.
He then jumped into the pitch-dark river and pulled two out of four passengers from the submerged car.
Tow of the young people in the car were unable to swim and Jason, from Kinnego, pulled them to safety.
He then bravely dived back into the water to check if there was anyone left trapped in the car.
Modest Jason said “I was just doing what I thought was the right thing. Happily nobody was hurt.”
However Buncrana councillor Peter McLaughlin said Jason’s bravery needs to be recognised.
“He saved two lives and simply said “sure anybody would have done it”. To me he is a hero.
“As far as I am concerned if someone does something like that then they should be recognised,” he said.
