Naomh Colmcille CLG
Weekly Notes
Another hard fought WIN for Naomh Colmcille.
Naomh Colmcille V Milford (1-7 to 0-6)
Milford got off to a strong start and a very physical game was on the cards. With Milford winning most of the tussles and picking up the free balls in the middle of the Park. Milford where getting most of the play in the opening quarter. With a few early scores and also a few unforced errors which should have been dropped over. N Colmcille found it difficult to get the ball forward to young Connor Grant, John Fullerton & Kieran Callaghan. Milford defence where too much at that moment for the N Colmcille forwards. It was all Milford during this first half with a few more scores from Milford and one return score from N Colmcille. N Colmcille fullbacks did great work in keeping the Milford forwards from pushing up the score. With a few far out shots from Joe Donaghy falling short to the keeper. Milford leading in 0-5 to 0-1 in the first half. N Colmcille glad that was over but at what expense to Milford as they were at full tilt the whole first half.
N Colmcille took a risk with Young Gillespie as he was not 100% fit and replaced young Conor Grant with Willie Gillespie and John Fullerton with Anthony Grant. N Colmcille got off to a great start within minutes of good pressure from N Colmcille the ball drops to Gillespie and with some fantastic holding off he blasts the ball past the Milford keeper for a Goal. Exactly what N Colmcille needed to lift their spirits! Milford seemed to be on the back foot and N Colmcille got that extra yard. With Andrew Clarke and Shane McAteer in the middle of the Park winning more possession N Colmcille was able to get the ball forward quicker and with young Gillespie pulling full backs away then the likes of Paul Friel and Don Heagerty where able to push for scores with Don getting one and Paul getting to very critical points from very tight angles from the Right. It was all N Colmcille now with Milford big time on the back foot. The game got physical again but this time N Colmcille was able to fight it off and with some great plays from Kieran Callaghan and Joe Donaghy more scores where dropped over points from Mark Dowds and Ryan McErlane pushed them 4 points clear. With the time run out a free for Milford right in close to Marty Callaghan’s goal Milford went for goal but as expected Marty was first to react with a great block and all was left now was the ref to blow the whistle and with a run down the right from young Lynch that was it game over and still undefeated.
N Colmcille: Marty Callaghan, Mark Callaghan, Alex Devenney, Eddie Gillespie, Lynch, Paul Friel(0-2), Shane McAteer, Andrew Clarke, Joe Donaghy, Ryan McErlane (0-3), Mark Dowds (0-1), Don Heagerty (0-1), Conor Grant, John Fullerton, Ciaran Callaghan. Subs: Willie Gillespie (1-0); Anthony Grant.
