Letterkenny Mayor Gerry McMonagle welcomed a No majority in the Letterkenny area, based on tallies.
Tallies show that of the overall total number of people who voted – a total of 50.65% have voted no.
Sinn Fein’s Cllr McMonagle said: “Letterkenny is a public sector town and despite the scare tactics of the Government, the people of the town have still come out and voted No to the austerity treaty.”
Fine Gael have said the vote is being called a split vote in the Cathedral Town.
