Letterkenny Youth Information Centre, which is managed by the Donegal Youth Service, will hold a series of Student Grants Information seminars for parents and young people across the county over the coming weeks.
The seminars will have information and guidance on how to apply for third level grant assistance for young people and parents of those who recently completed their Leaving Certificate, or those who are entering the third level system as mature students.
The Student Grant process has seen significant changes this year, with all new applications now having to be completed online.
The grant is now administered nationally through Dublin VEC’s Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), meaning Youth Information Centres will now provide vital mentoring support at local level for those who need help in filling out the online application.
The dates and locations for the seminars are as follows:
Thursday 21st June – Raphoe Family Resource Centre
Monday 25th June – Buncrana Youth Drop In
Tuesday 26th June – Letterkenny Youth Information Centre
Tuesday 26th June – Castlefinn Youth Club
Wednesday 27th June – Planet Youth, Ballybofey
Tuesday 3rd July – Donegal Town (Family Resource Centre)
Wednesday 4th July – Milford Youth Project
10th July – Clonmany (St Brigids Youth Club)
Wednesday 11th July – The Yard, Falcarragh
All seminars get underway at 7pm.
Youth Information Officer Martin Keeney is urging those who have not yet applied to do so now.
“The deadline for applying for the grant is 31st August so if people haven’t already applied now is the time to do so. We are here to help with any student grant queries you may have so don’t hesitate to contact us. ”
The Youth Information Centre also offer a free consultation service for those who are experiencing difficulties completing the new online application form, and are open on a daily basis from Monday to Friday for those with specific queries in relation to this. They will also be running a special late evening clinic on Tuesday evenings from 6-8pm through July and August for those who need help in filling in the form online. Bookings for this evening clinic must be made via telephone.
As Information Co-ordinator Gareth Gibson explains: “This service is just one example of a wide array of information services available from the Youth Information Centre we are planning to roll out across the county as part of our new youth information strategy.”
