Donegal County Council wants to designate 2,300 townlands in the county as being preferred for wind farm development – that’s half of Donegal.
But a rural GP near Melbourne, an advisor to a group which opposes wind farms on medical grounds, has contacted donegaldaily.com to urge people here to fight against the turbine developments.
There is so much concern in Australia that the country’s Senate is holding investigations.
The Waubra Foundation is a national organisation formed to facilitate “properly reviewed, independent research into the health problems which have been identified by residents living near wind turbines and other industrial sites which may have common cause.”
Dr Sarah Laurie told us: “It is important that people realise that there are many doctors internationally who are really concerned about this, as well as acousticians.
“A well informed community can really make life difficult for the planners who make these decisions as well as the developers.
“They need to understand there is sufficient information out in the public domain to put them on legal notice that there are some serious health problems emerging with this technology, and that it has not been properly tested or studied.
“There are NO studies showing that these turbines do not cause any impact on the nearby population including turbine hosts, and an increasing number of adverse health events being reported which show that they do have a negative impact.”
