Almost three weeks after it went missing, a well-known Donegal bird-lover has made a renewed appeal for the public to watch out for his beloved Harris Hawk.
Pedro Soltani from Glenties is a hugely respected falconer who has a massive aviary at the rear of his home.
On April 24th last while cleaning out the aviary, the Harris Hawk, which Pedro bred in captivity, managed to escape.
Since then he has been scouring the area looking for the bird.
He told Donegal Daily that he now fears he may never recover the bird.
“I get more worried with each passing day and I known I might not see it again.
“It was a lovely bird and it will be able to survive on its own because it is a natural hunter but I would like to have it back.
“Perhaps the only ways it could be killed is being hit by traffic or being bombarded by ravens or buzzards,” he said.
Pedro says he has received lots of reports about the rare bird but none have turned out to be true.
“People have been very good but most of them are other birds such as buzzards,” he said.
Anybody who may come across the hawk, which has distinctive leather straps on its claws, can contact Pedro on 087 7668379.
