Results
It was a busy time at Portsalon Golf club over the holiday week end. The events attracted large turnouts on Saturday and Sunday however the rain decended upon the course on Monday and only a few ventured to play. The results over the week end were as follows;
Saturday 5th May the winner was Paul Mc Intyre (24) 38 points B.O.T Runner up:Joe Hensey (12) 38 points Gross:Eamon Mc Dermott (3) 30 points Third: Anthony Toland (17) 37 points. The CSS was 36 points. Sunday 6th May the winner was Jim Toal (22) 40 points Gross:Pascal Cullen (6) 31 B.O.Third:Johnny Kelly (17) 38 points The CSS was 36 points. Monday 7th May the winner was Pauric Morrison with 34 points
Donegal Links Classic
The biggest and one of the most eagerly awaited golfing events in the North West is almost upon us. The Donegal Links Classic which is staged over three of Donegal’s most prestigious links golf courses Ballyliffen, Portsalon and Rosapenna golf courses. The Donegal Links Classic is scheduled to run over three days 4th 5th & 6th June 2012.The Donegal Links Classic is one of the longest running team events in the golfing calendar year and is well worth a visit for anyone interested. The format as in previous years is a team of four (gents or ladies). There is a host of prizes on offer daily team and individual prizes on each of the course on a daily basis and the overall prizes for the three days golfing. Team News
It was a busy weekend for teams representing Portsalon golf club which also had mixed results. On Friday even. On Sunday the Eugene Gallagher led his team in the Jimmy Breun First out was the over 50’s who entertained Bundoran golf club. Following the first leg match the Portasalon team led by three and half to one and half matches. The match was eventually called in as the first team of Paddy Sheridan and Cathal Toland were winners by four and two and the third match of Shaun Shields and Tony Kingston were winners by five up with three to play. Both these victories gave the home team the necessary points to advance. The opponents in the next round will be either Rosapenna or Murvagh golf club. Also on Friday evening Cathal Canning had his team in action in the return leg of the senior competition against Gweedore golf club. Trailing by five matches to two from the first leg Cathal had his team up for their challenge. Having lost the opening two matches the Portsalon team won all the remaining five matches to tie the match on five matches each. The tie was decided on the extra tie hole and Gweedore emerged victorious. On Sunday the first of the Jimmy Bruen qualifying was held in Nairn Portnoo and the Portsalon team failed to qualify.
The team events continue on Sunday as Seanus Farren sets out on his inaugural team captain’s event with the Pierce Purcell qualifying taking place at Greencastle golf club and the Ulster fourball play their second round first leg match as Hugh Mc Ginley leads his team to Malone Golf Club.
Match Play
The first round of the clubs match play competition is now completed. All second round matches must be played by 31st May.
Damage to the Course
The Captain D P Logue and head green keeper John Shields would like to thank the members and the Milford Fire Service who assisted during the recent fires on the course.
Mixed Foursomes
The team captain of this season’s mixed foursomes has arranged competitions each Friday evening at 6.30.
