Commiserations to Kevin O’Loughlin and team mentor Gary Duffy who unfortunately lost out to Armagh in the Ulster Minor Shield Final in Clones last Saturday. Their focus will now be turning to the first round of the Ulster Champlionship in Breffni Park. Best of luck lads.
U16 Football: Buncrana U16 Footballers have reached the Northern League final, following an impressive display versus Letterkenny Gaels in the semi-final on Sunday evening. Buncrana began the game at a blistering pace and registered three unanswered points in the opening 5 minutes, through John Campbell, Dara McDermott and Aidan Donaghey. The visitors fought their way back into the game and drew level midway through the first half. However, solid defending from Jack Doherty, Andrew Doherty, Aodhan Stokes and Caolan McGonagle provided the platform for Buncrana to push on. The surging runs of Aidan Donaghey, John Campbell and Shane McLaughlin created constant problems for the Letterkenny defence and the home side went in at half time with a 4 point lead. Buncrana dominated midfield in the second half, thanks to the excellent work rate of Joseph McGrory, and further goals from Harry Doherty and John Campbell put an end to any hopes of a comeback for Letterkenny Gaels. The lads can take great confidence from an excellent team performance and will now focus on the Northern League final. Training continues on Wednesday evening.
Minor Football: Buncrana 4-10 MacCumhaill’s 2-5
In the bitterly cold Scarvey, Buncrana overcame a hard working, talented MacCumhaill’s team. Buncrana led at half time 1-4 to 1-3, thanks to 2 excellent saves from Harry Doherty. A blistering start to the second half netted Buncrana 2-2 in the first 5 minutes. McCumhaills replied with a goal and a further goal from Darach O’Connor, his 4th of the game. Points from Ryan Curran, Mark O’Connell, Darragh McDermott and Kevin O’Loughlin sealed a victory for Buncrana. Best for Buncrana were Darach O’Connor, Joseph McGrory and Conor Grant. Scorers: Darach O’Connor 4-4, Kevin O’Loughlin 0-3, Mark O’Connell 0-1, Ryan Curren 0-1 and Darragh McDermott 0-1. Final Score 4-10 to 2-5
