It was a busy weekend for the club with athletes competing in competitions in Birmingham, Ardara, Gortahork and Maghery. Prode of place must go to our young athletes who were representing Donegal in Birmingham at the UK Aviva Sportshall Athletic Finals. Tara Harley, Bridget McDyer, Ailbhe O’Donnell and Sarah Doherty were competing with the u15 relay team finishing second and and u13 relay team finishing third. The outstanding Donegal performance came from Sarah Doherty who claiming two gold medals representing the best points return ever by a Donegal athlete at this event. Very well done to all.
On Saturday last a number of athletes competed in the Ardara 10k which has over 1000 people competing with Sean McShane winning the mens in 36:36, while there was good performances from others competing in a great event. On Sunday there was a 5 mile road race in Gortahork with Michael Logue coming out on top in the mens and Nicola Doherty winning the womens. In Maghery at the same time there was a 5k race where John Paul Wilson came home second behind Mark McCole with Helen McCready winning the ladies followed by Carleen Walsh. It is great to see so many athletes from the area competing in races. One thing to note however is that we do need to have everybody registered with the club (20 euro) and also we would encourage people to start wearing the club vests – contact Ita for details. The northwest 10k is coming up on Sunday week and many athletes are planning to complete in this event – due to he large numbers in recent times it is worth considering registering on line. It would be great to see all club members wearing the club colours at this event.
