Gardai are investigating a fire which caused serious damage at a bar in St Johnston.

Tens of thousands of euro of damage was caused to Toland’s Bar after a blaze broke out this morning just before 1am.

Four units of the fire service, two from Donegal and two from Derry, rushed to the scene and quickly brought the blaze under control.

Donegal’s Acting Chief Fire Officer Joe McTaggart said thankfully nobody was injured in the blaze.

“The premises was vacant at the time but there was considerable damage to two floors of the building.

“Thankfully there was nobody in the building at the time and nobody was injured,” he said.

A full investigation into how the blaze started has started.

A Garda spokesman said “It is still unclear as to how this fire started but we are liaising we the fire service as part of our investigation.”
