Said Deputy Doherty: “This is very welcome news as the government’s veto on the European Stability Mechanism Treaty will still be available after the referendum on the Austerity Treaty takes place.
“This takes the issue of emergency funding for a second bailout out of the equation for the austerity treaty referendum.
“The people have no need to worry about this issue when they go to the polls and the government needs to stop using it in their arguments for the treaty.
“The government should now give an undertaking to use its veto on the European Stability Mechanism treaty if the people reject the Austerity Treaty on the 31st May.”
