Buncrana GAA Notes For Week Ending Sunday 1st February 2012
Thanks: On St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday 17th March, Buncrana GAA held a celebration of Irish Culture for all the family. We would like to thank the musicians; Michael Gallanagh, Tom Byrne, Denis Kelly and Clare for giving up their time and playing in the clubhouse and also Dinny Mc Laughlin for his music and story telling. A big thanks also to the dancers of the Donna Elliot School of Dancing for their perormance as well. It was a lively morning with mixed teams of boys and girls under the ages of 12 and 14 who pitted their skils against each other and provided two entertaining games of football. The large attendence was kept fed and refreshed by the tea and sandwiches served on the day and our thanks to all of those who contributed in the making and serving of these. Pictures of this enjoyable event are no available on the Buncrana GAA Facebook page.
Stay Awake Night: As a Club we are continuously striving to improve the facilities and opportunities for our young people. In order to do this, we must fundraise and we do appreciate your continued support. We are now planning another unique event, a sponsored ‘Stay awake all night’ on Good Friday night in the Scarvey Club House, 9pm till 9am. Our underage players and club members are volunteering to undertake this challenging, yet fun filled, test of endurance in order to raise funds for underage development. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided, as well as prizes for the person with the most sponsorship. Best of luck to everyone involved! ZZZzzz!

Girls U12 Football: On Saturday 24th, a squad of 26 girls travelled to Cookstown for a blitz in the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena, taking on teams from all over Ulster. Despite all 3 teams being very young (with many still in the under 10 age group) the girls played with great heart and really held their own. Both the coaches and players gained alot from the day, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

Senior Ladies Gaelic Football: The Buncrana Ladies Senior team played another pre-season warm-up game in The Scarvey on Wednesday night ,against an in-form Malin side. Once again, the experienced Malin side took the lead in the first half, but the youthful Buncrana side did not make it easy for them. The girls are beginning to show the talent and experience they all have as the nerves settle and they begin to form as a team. The second half saw the Buncrana ladies push Malin to a tight finish; with the girls taking control of the ball for the last 15 minutes of the match. Even though Buncrana where missing some key players, it was a good performance by all who took part. If we were to pick out one player to mention, it woulds have to be Joanne Buck; who (while only being introduced to the sport very recently) showed how hard work, determination and putting the effort in at training can give a major return to the team and shows us all what being part of a team is all about! Training, as always, continues on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm and Friday evening at 8pm. All welcome!
