One of the most spectacular sights in the forthcoming Relay for Life Donegal will be the lighting and displaying of Candles of Hope before the Luminaria or Candle of Hope Ceremony.
Candles, lit in specially made luminaria bags, will be placed around the relay track as darkness falls and will light the way for the hundreds of participants in Relay for Life Donegal. “Remember” is the theme of the Luminaria Ceremony and each bag will represent a loved one who has passed away or who is still fighting the disease.
Candles of Hope will be on sale throughout Donegal in the weeks leading up to Relay for Life Donegal which takes place on May 26th and 27th in Letterkenny IT. There will be ‘Pop Up Shops’ in various locations when bags can be purchased for a minimum donation of €5 each.
As bags cannot be taken away there will be a stock of markers, colouring pencils etc should purchasers wish to decorate and personalise them – if you think that you would like to purchase a Candle of Hope bag please be prepared and have a photograph or memorial card with you should you like to personalise your bag in this way.
You will be given an exclusive number which will identify your bag and help locate it when displayed around the track at the Candle of Hope Ceremony on May 26th. There is also the option of submitting a photo of your loved one for use in the Candle of Hope slideshow if desired.
Our target is to sell 5,000 bags which will help in the fight against cancer. Relay for Life Donegal – Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back. relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com
