Catriona Melly, 12, was diagnosed with Immunodeficiency when she was just one and in 2006 she underwent a bone marrow translplant.
Just two weeks ago Catriona had her favourite wish granted by the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the UK.
She was driven in a limousine to Andover where she met Tripe and Onions – two snow white Shetland Ponies.
Brave Catriona passed away in London this week.
Her funeral will take place in St Crona’s Church, Dungloe on Friday.
During her special day Catriona and her family had lunch with the ponies’ owner Anne Radcliffe, who gave the little girl a selection of Pony related gifts, including a hat and t-shirt emblazoned with a picture of her new friends.
The experience ended with the 12-year-old and her brother Callum, aged 13, going for a ride on a cart pulled by the animals.
Speaking after Catriona’s visit mum Carol Melly said: “Tripe and Onions were the most beautiful placid, sweet little ponies and Catriona just loved them.
“She had a great day and was so excited. The ladies had washed and brushed the ponies for us so they were very soft and Catriona spent a lot of time just stroking them.”
“Thank you so much to Starlight – it was a truly wonderful experience.”
Mrs Melly added that her daughter’s love for ponies stems from reading John Flanagan’s Rangers Apprentice books.
