A Letterkenny man who said heroin is getting more common in Co Donegal has been jailed for ten years for possession of the drug.
Bernard Alcorn was caught with the drug in Stradone, Cavan in April, 2010.
Alcorn of 17 Cluain Ard, Letterkenny had pleaded guilty to the sale or supply of the drug.
Cavan Circuit Court heard how Alcorn had been stopped in a van in which more than €20,000 of the drug was found.
The Court heard that Alcorn had left Letterkenny on 22nd April 2010 to collect Heroin in Dublin. Members of the Drugs Unit at Letterkenny had followed him, assisted by Drugs officers in Cavan and Monaghan.
At 7pm on 22/4/10 Alcorn was observed at the Lavey Inn, Stradone, Co. Cavan removing items from his van. As Gardai approached he was observed throwing a bag into nearby shrubbery.
The bag was recovered and contained €18,790 worth of Heroin. Alcorn was arrested and detained at Cavan Garda Station. He did not co-opetrate with the Gardai. He was subsequently charged with Possession of drugs for sale or supply

He was aware that Alcorn received a 2 year sentence at Letterkenny Circuit Court on the 10.02.12 for possession of HEROIN for SALE/SUPPLY. For the Section 15a Offence Judge Hagan stated that his hands were tied, there was no co-operation with Gardai from Alcorn.
The Court heard from investigating Gardai that Alcorn had 38 previous convictions, including Possession of Drugs for Sale/Supply (4), Numerous RTA Offences, Burglary, Theft, Public Order and Assault.
