Gardai do not believe the man attacked in Letterkenny last weekend was struck with a slash-hook.
There had been an allegation that the 41 year old victim had been hit with the weapon during the attack at Glenard Park in the Long Lane area after 11.30pm on Friday night.
However Donegaldaily.com understands the injuries received by the man are not consistent with a slash-hook.
The victim, named locally as Dermot Kildea, received 22 staples to a serious head injury when he was admitted to Letterkenny General Hospital.
He had been found unconscious after being set upon by a number of men.
It is now thought Mr Kildea may have been struck with a baseball bat which was one of a number of weapons seized when Gardai raided three houses in the Long Lane area.
Two men have since appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with assault and will appear again at Harrristown District Court on February 24th.
