RAPHOE LOCAL NOTES
Week ending Friday 10th February 2012
ON-LINE COMMUNITY DIARY LAUNCH
The Family Resource Centre in association with Donegal Local Development Company Limited’s Volunteering in the Community Programme is pleased to announce the launch of the Raphoe On-line Community Diary at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21st February in the Family Resource Centre.
The On-line Community Diary is an initiative undertaken by Melissa Laird and Jason Toner, two of the participants from the Volunteering in the Community Project. The On-line Community Diary provides the opportunity for local groups, organizations, sports clubs, schools, Churches etc to promote an upcoming event and to avoid clashing with another event, a common enough occurrence in small communities. The Diary page is still under construction but for a preview please log on to www.raphoecommunitydiary.com
The Launch will include a step-by-step guide to accessing the On-line Diary demonstrated by Melissa and Jason. Everyone is welcome to attend the launch and light refreshments will be available.
For those organisations without Internet access you can contact the Family Resource Centre with details of your event and these will be uploaded for you by staff. We would like to thank Mr Lee Scanlon for his support in developing the On-line Diary.
Jason and Melissa are currently drafting a Directory of community, sporting, recreational and educational organizations and if you would like to have your organization included please telephone 074 9145796.
The Volunteering in the Community Programme is funded by the International Fund for Ireland.
SPEAKING UP REACHING OUT PROJECT
The selection of participants for this new free cross-border project for people with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities is now taking place. The project, a joint initiative between the Family Resource Centre and Mencap is a training and development project with a focus on raising disability awareness within communities and community organizations and workplaces. Twenty participants from a selected area of Donegal and from the Strabane District Council area will come together from early February until end of November 2012 to undertake training in personal development, computers, disability awareness training, communication skills, group work and of course to meet new friends and to have fun.
If you are interested in finding out more about the project or wish to participate then please telephone Tony on 074 9145796.

RAPHOE TIDY TOWNS APPEAL 2012
The Tidy Town Application for Raphoe in 2012 will be arriving as usual in the coming weeks therefore the Tidy Towns Committee are seeking your great help and support as always. In recent weeks the Tidy Towns scheme workers have collected up to 50 bags of litter from some of our approach roads with a number still to do for Spring Clean 2012. The Strabane road and the road from Ballinalecky to Sheldon’s lane were very badly littered. The area on the Convoy road at Brae head wood is very bad and it is shameful to see so much illegal dumping at this beautiful area near the waterfall. Other areas have been noticed also and the details have been passed on to the Co Council authorities for investigation. You can help us this year again by keeping your properties/businesses and gardens to a good and tidy standard, donate paint, shrubs or flowers, tidy derelict properties, put out window boxes or hanging baskets & keep your area litter free. The success of Tidy Towns each year is community effort by all in Raphoe from children right through to our seniors which is very much appreciated.
If you can help us in any way it will be very much appreciated. Special thanks to all the Tidy Towns staff, Fas & Dept’ of Social Protection Ballybofey & Letterkenny, Donegal Co Council Roads dept’, Ms Suzanne Tinney Donegal Co Council, DLDC Rural Scheme & RCIA Ltd The Volt House, all local Schools & Churches, & our entire community for their ongoing support over many years.
