A BROTHER of the teenager who died in today’s road crash near Mountcharles survived the horrific smash, it has emerged.
Driver Christopher Kane, 19, right, died instantly when his Peugeout 207 crashed into a bridge on the narrow Station Road.
His brother Declan, just 17, survived the crash and is being treated today with two other teenagers at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The Kane family – including dad Paddy, mum Elizabeth and sister Margaret – are being comforted by relatives and friends today after the single vehicle accident.
The eldest of three children, Christopher had told friends that he wanted to emigrate to Australia later this year.
A family friend said today: “The family are distraught as you can imagine. The whole community is in shock because Chris was well-known and popular locally.
“He had spoken about going to Australia but I’m not sure if he had taken those plans on any further.”
Dozens of people have left condolences messages on Christopher’s Facebook page today.
“We’ll miss you so much,” said one close friend. “It’s always the best who have to go.”
The dead teenager was fascinated by cars, featuring pictures of his favourite vehicles on his Facebook page.
Gardai in Ballyshannon are appealing for information on the crash, Donegal’s first fatal incident this year.
Road conditions were poor overnight after 24 hours of rain.
