Knockalla Coastguard Cottages overlooking scenic Lough Swilly – near Portsalon – were shook to their foundations when the 2.2 quake hit just after 1am on Thursday morning.
The quant cottages also offer a stunning view of the Northern Lights which have appeared on the Peninsula.
Owner Anne Hewett said the huge bang which accompanied the earthquake took her back to her younger days growing up in Belfast.
“It was like two bombs going off one after another, the whole house shook & vibrated. I haven’t heard anything like it since living in Belfast when I was younger.
“It was a surreal feeling, we looked out our windows front & back but didn’t see anything, we thought it may have been bad thunder but after checking the news the morning it came to light it was a earthquake!”
Since the ‘quake, Anne has been flooded with calls from people wanting to rent the property next to her own house.
“I guess it’s a combination of the earthquake and the Northern Lights. Donegal really does have a lot to offer people. It’s true what they say in the TV advert – up here it really is different,” she laughed.
Despite the earthquake, the 150 cottages on the banks of Lough Swilly have remained completely intact.
