HUNDREDS of stargazers from all over Ireland are heading to Donegal this weekend as forecasts show it could be perfect for seeing the Northern Lights.
And if the county hasn’t had enough publicity (with earthquakes adding to the headlines) it got another fantastic plug on RTE’s Prime Time last night as they showed Northern Lights pictures at the end of the programme from Adam Porter, Brendan Alexander and Bren Whelan.
Hotels and B&Bs throughout the north of the county have been inundated with requests for accommodation this weekend.
Even donegaldaily.com has had dozens of emails from around Ireland from people asking for hotel recommendations!
Kathleen Gill from Inishowen Tourism says the publicity is much-needed.
“This would normally be a very quiet time of the year, so to see the county and Inishowen in particularly getting so much positive publicity is just fantastic,” she said.
“The Northern Lights are spectacular, and even more so when set against our stunning coast. The pictures taken have been incredible.”
Met Eireann and the BBC are both predicting clear skies for tonight, Friday and again on Sunday night. Saturday night is looking less promising, but that could change.
And the longer forecast for early next week is for clear spells – which could all give great views of the Northern Lights.
