The search is underway on both sides of the border for a €5.5 million lotto winner.
The winning ticket in this week’s midweek lotto draw was bought in the border village of Killea.
The ticket was purchased as part of a €12 quick-pick in the Killea Service Station on Friday last, January 20th.
Shop owner Chanban Solanki said this is by far the biggest lotto winner his Topshop has ever had.
“We got a call to say someone had won it in our shop and we are delighted.
“He never gave his name because he wants to remain anonymous. We have had a couple of smaller winners such as €5,000 and €7,000 but this is certainly the biggest,” he said.
Shop assistant Ewa Kolodzkzyke said she thinks the winner could be from across the border in Derry.
“We have lots of people coming in here for petrol for Derry. We are very excited by it all.
“People have been calling all morning to see if we know who has won all this money but we don’t know.
“We are very happy for them. I only wish it was me,” she said.
The winning numbers were 1, 11, 13, 14, 15, 37 and the bonus number was 30.
This is the third big winner from Co Donegal in recent weeks.
In early December last, grandmother Kathleen McLaughlin from Redcastle won €2.6 million.
And just three weeks later a mystery winner scooped €2 million after purchasing their ticket at the post office in Donegal Town.
