Temperatures are set to plunge across Donegal from this afternoon with freezing conditions of -1 forecast.
And Met Eireann is even warning that parts of Donegal could be hit by sleet and snow.
Although the county has escaped anything like last year’s arctic-like conditions, the long-range forecast is that February could leave a sting in the tail.
The good news for many is that tonight’s freezing conditions will not remain as milder weather is due again later tomorrow.
RTE has also warned that there will be a rapid decrease in temperatures across Donegal tonight.
It’s website reads “Cold tonight with some clear spells but occasional showers of rain, hail, sleet and some snow showers too, these mainly over high ground.
“Lowest temperatures ranging from -1 to +2 degrees, with a widespread sharp ground frost.”
Donegal County Council gritters are also on standby to treat roads across the county.
