Aurora Alert Update: 22nd/23rd January, from Donegal Skies
The coronal mass ejection (CME) blasted towards Earth on the 19th of January struck the Earth’s magnetic field at 06:17 on the 22nd of January. The Initial interaction was weak but activity has been increasing since 09:00-10:00. If this activity continues to increase there is a possibility of viewing the aurora from Ireland and northern parts of the UK on the night/morning of the 22nd/23rd January. That’s tonight. Kp values of 6 or greater should result in aurora displays over Ireland and northern parts of the UK but other factors are also involved.
